Why Renovating Your Home Is A Great Investment

Your home is one of your most important assets. Whether you are ready to settle into your “forever home” or you are preparing to sell your house, renovating your space is a valuable investment. Here are three reasons why you should consider remodeling:

#1 Reducing Energy Usage and Lowering Utility Bills

A strategic home renovation can save you money in the long run as various projects can help maximize your energy usage and lower utility bills each month. Additionally, California offers tax credits and utility rebates for replacing worn-out equipment with more energy-efficient models. Some of the projects that qualify for the Energy Property Credit are energy-efficient exterior windows, doors, skylights; high-efficiency furnaces, air conditioning, and efficient ducting; high efficiency water heaters; improved insulation; upgraded roofing; and properly weatherizing your home.

As General Contractors, our services can encompass these items. We take care of the heavy lifting, ensuring that your renovation includes strategic improvements tailored to your home.

#2 Investing Into Your Wellbeing

You may be moving into a house that you plan on staying in for many years to come. Not only can renovations increase functionality and add space, they often contribute to important lifestyle shifts that benefit your wellbeing. A bathroom remodel can create an escape for relaxation and privacy, a beautiful kitchen can simplify the cooking process to encourage home-cooked meals, and redesigning your dining room can inspire dinner parties that promote community and connection.

At Utt Construction, we work with you closely to bring your vision to reality, considering your unique lifestyle and making a tailored plan to your needs. We were honored to win SBCA’s Best Residential Remodel for this home (featured above) that was originally designed in the 1950s by Thortan Ladd, a world-renowned architect. All windows and sliding glass exterior doors in the house were replaced and reconfigured with new custom-made powder-coated steel frame windows. The sauna was gutted and rebuilt completely, and the dreamy bathroom's airy lighting and luxurious bathtub make it the perfect spot for relaxing after a long day.⠀⠀

#3 Boost Resale Value

As California’s housing market continues at a hot pace, you might consider selling your home. The potential gains of renovating can outweigh the initial money you put into your remodeling project. Among the most popular renovations for increasing a home’s value are bathroom and kitchen remodels. According to Opendoor, adding a second or third bathroom “can increase the median home value by 5.7% on average... and an existing bathroom creates nearly as much value as converting one from scratch.” Even a quick $5k project can increase your home value by up to $50k.

Our team can guide you throughout the remodeling process, helping you maximize the value of your home. With over three decades of experience in Santa Barbara, we have developed proficient design expertise, understanding what sells in today's market. We are more than happy to walk through your property and strategize about which projects you should complete before your home goes on the market.

We had the privilege of remodeling this home on Franceschi Road, adding a two-story wing connected to the existing living room. With french doors opening up to the lounge, rearranged wood casement windows, and a spiral staircase, the home overflows with stunning design details and won the Santa Barbara Contractors Association's Best Residential Remodel Award.

Whether you are ready to settle into your dream home, or you want the best investment return on your property, we are here to guide you through the process. Contact us today and let’s start the bidding process.
