A Day In The Life of Bruce Williams

Bruce Williams has been a part of Utt Construction since shortly after its inception in the ‘80s. Starting as a Cabinet Maker, he quickly progressed to Shop Foreman and Cabinet Designer - a position he held for many years. Now Bruce leads the entire division, overseeing the design, fabrication, and installation of all cabinetry and millwork. While every day changes, Bruce’s process remains consistent: patient, focused, and diligent.

Setting The Stage:

On a typical morning, Bruce arrives at our local shop around 6:30 am. Taking advantage of the quiet workspace before the crew arrives, he answers emails, creates the schedule, and plans out the day. No matter the tasks ahead, each morning sets the stage for productivity.

The Heavy Lifting:

After settling morning tasks and routines, Bruce gets straight into the heavy lifting. Behind any well-run cabinet shop is a plethora of organization and logistics. Consistent communication and administration outline Bruce’s days, from phone calls between clients and contractors, to concerns about designs and installations, and all the details in between.

Some days Bruce stays in the office, scheduling, creating cut-lists for cabinet fabrication, and drawing design plans. Other days might include significant time on job-site, attending job walks, meetings, or overseeing an installation. No matter what he does in a day, Bruce remains focused on the big picture: quality cabinetry for homeowners to enjoy for years to come.

The Artistry of the Craft:

Bruce’s early years of fabricating cabinets in the ‘80s built the foundations of his expertise and developed his love for the creative process.

Now, having worked with our company for over 30 years, some of his favorite moments are when he has the opportunity to return to the floor - reliving the hands-on skills that made him first fall in love with cabinet making. Additionally, Bruce thrives in the design process. Drawing project plans has become one of his favorite routines as it embodies the artistry and innovation of his craft.

Around 4 or 5 in the afternoon, Bruce wraps up final tasks, preps for tomorrow’s work, and closes out the day. Just like he remains focused in the workplace, Bruce is present at home to enjoy time with his family and the activities he loves.

As a fitness enthusiast, Bruce is an avid cyclist and an experienced martial artist. His afternoons often consist of long bike rides through Santa Barbara’s scenery, time at the beach, or working in the garden. Whether spending time with his family, improving upon his hobbies, or working at Utt Construction, Bruce’s values extend into all aspects of his life: be intentional and patient, work diligently, and set a good example.
